The Peugeot 408 now turns from a compact sedan into a crossover, or rather a mixture of SUV, hatchback and sedan, which can be described as a coupe crossover. This C-segment car is positioned as larger than the Peugeot 308 model, but smaller than the Peugeot 3008 or Peugeot 508 models. The Peugeot 408 is built on the EMP2 platform, which it shares with the third-generation 308 model, and shares the interior dashboard with it. The design of the crossover was inspired by the extremely attractive design concept car shown at the "2015 Advanced Design Manifesto" event. The style of this car is very similar to the Citroën C5 X and the smaller Citroën C4 models, which also became crossovers. Thanks to its sleek body shape, the Peugeot 408 has an extremely low drag coefficient of 0.28, on par with traditional sedans. Three gears are offered, similar to the Peugeot 308 model. Two plug-in 1.6-liter hybrid gasoline engines - one with 180 hp (132 kW), the other with 225 hp (165 kW). The base version reaches 130 hp (96 kW) from a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder PureTech gasoline engine. All models are connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
