Ferrari F 40, 1987 - 1992
The legendary Ferrari supercar Ferrari F40, which is recognized by everyone who is not even interested in motoring. This great car has a mid-mounted V8 engine with two turbines. The car replaced the Ferrari 288 GTO model. From 1987 to 1989, the F40 was officially the fastest road car in the world, and during all its years of production, it was the fastest, most powerful and most expensive Ferrari car. It cost around US $ 400,000, but some buyers have also paid around US $ 1.6 million. A total of 1315 F40 units were produced. Enzo Ferrari sought to create a supercar that could compete with the Porsche 959. The plan was simple: to create the most simple, the most powerful, state-of-the-art sports car without any intricacies for maximum speed. It was the last car to be developed by Ferrari founder Enzo himself. The body of the F40 has been designed so that at high speeds the F40 can rely more on its shape than power. Stability, not fluidity, was paramount, and cooling the rear engine was paramount. It was like a racing F1 car with a light body on top. The car had absolutely no comfort equipment, sound insulation, sound equipment, the instrument panel had only the most necessary devices, even the side windows did not open! It’s like a big go-kart with 477 hp! In this way, the F40 weighs only 1100 kg, has 477 hp / 7000 rpm, and the dynamics are impressive in 4.1 seconds from 0-100 km / h (while the racing versions of the F40 reached 3.2 seconds), from 0-200 km / h the F40 accelerates in 11 seconds (the F40 is slightly faster than the Porsche 959, its biggest competitor at the time). The F40 was the first road car to exceed the 200 mph limit (322 km / h). From 1987 to 1989, the F40 was considered the fastest car in the world, reaching an impressive speed of 324 km / h. During the 2006 Bonneville Speed Week event, the hard-to-imagine speed of 364 km / h was achieved with the F40 (with minor air supply improvements). This is a truly unique car.
