Ferrari Testarossa, 1984 - 1996
The Ferrari Testarossa is a sports car with a 12-cylinder center-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive introduced back in 1984 and replaced the Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer. Despite being a chic and expensive car, it was very popular, selling almost 10,000 units. Later, Testarossa was updated several times. This car had an engine mounted behind the wheels in the center of the passenger compartment to achieve the best possible weight distribution between the axles (40% of the weight went to the front axle, 60% to the rear) and reduced center of gravity, making the car stable and well controlled. The Testarossa engine is 4.9 liters (4943 cubic centimeters) with 12 flat cylinders (180 degree layout). Each cylinder has four valves, for a total of forty-eight. Maximum torque - 490 Newtons at 4,500 rpm, maximum power - 396 hp at 6,300 rpm. Ferrari Testarossa can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.8 seconds. A quarter mile (~ 400 m) can be covered in 13.5 seconds, and the top speed is 290 kilometers per hour. The Testarossa F512 M was the last Ferrari with a mid-mounted 12-cylinder engine (excluding the F50 and Enzo supercars). Testarossa also had the latest flat engine developed by the company. The Testarossa was replaced in 1996 by the 550 Maranello, which already has an engine at the front.
