The Volkswagen Amarok is the company’s first pickup to undoubtedly follow in the footsteps of the successful VW Touareg. The name Amarok is derived from the language of the Inuit people living in the Arctic, which means “wolf,” and the word also means “loving stones” in the language of the Romance people living in South America. With this model, Volkswagen is entering the mid-size pickup segment, which is complemented by 2 million new cars worldwide each year. The SUV has been provided with the design promoted by Volkswagen in recent years - strict horizontal lines conveying the play of surfaces, headlights combined with a characteristic grille, well-balanced proportions. The pickup cargo compartment offers one of the largest cargo areas in its class. The cargo is placed at a height of just 525 millimeters and the cargo area is 2.52 square meters. The Amarok is available with a simple and double passenger compartment and three gear types, each tailored to a specific market: permanent all-wheel drive, off-all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. The permanent all-wheel drive version features a Torsen differential that distributes power in a ratio of 40:60 to the front and rear axles while ensuring excellent vehicle dynamics and good traction. An optional rear locking differential is available for all drive types. The engine range consists of two reliable, economical and environmentally friendly 2.0-liter turbodiesel engines. One 163 hp (120 kW) 2.0 TDI engine with common rail injection has a two-level bi-turbo engine that generates 400 Newton meters of torque at ultra-low revs of 1,500 rpm. Another four-cylinder TDI with 122 hp (90 kW) turbocharged reaches a maximum torque of 340 Newton meters from 2,000 rpm. Both engines are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and feature extremely low fuel consumption, e.g. The 4x4 version with 122 hp TDI uses only 7.6 liters per 100 kilometers and CO2 emissions are only 199 g / km. Volkswagen Amarok’s main competitors are Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi Triton cars.
