The presentation of Smart #1 was an important moment for the brand - the car presented a new vision of the company, a new system of model names and the most important technologies of the ruling Chinese concern Geely. However, the first Smart of the new age has not been particularly successful so far, so the second model will aim to correct some of the mistakes of the first. As you know, Mercedes and Geely jointly own the Smart company, but it is the electric vehicle architecture (SEA) of the Chinese company that is used in the new Smart #3 model. The new Volvo EX30 is built on the same platform. Obviously, the "smart" company is gradually moving away from the image of a cute small car manufacturer and moving into the still small but extremely competitive market of high-end electric SUVs. At first glance, the #3 looks identical to the #1, with the same ultra-sleek design with similar front and rear lights and a similar grille shape. But the Smart #3 is more different than it might appear - it sits lower, the car is slightly wider and longer than the #1. Minor design changes are also visible inside, with round air intakes and improvements to the center console. Unfortunately, although the interior design is excellent, the same low-quality materials are used. It would seem that the lower roof of the Smart #3 would provide less headroom for passengers, but all the seats were installed lower. Rear seat space isn't a problem for adults either, as the standard panoramic roof offers a bit more headroom, and there's plenty of legroom, too. As the #3 is longer than the #1, there is again a bit more space in the boot - the #3 has 370 liters of space compared to the #1 model's 323 litres. All models have an impressive 12.8-inch central screen and a 9.2-inch instrument panel in front of the driver, which is admittedly mounted a little too low. Kogero did this with the driver's attention camera position in mind. The central touchscreen is full of information, but it will take some getting used to. Compared to Smart #1, Smart #3 infotainment works more smoothly. The base model has a single electric motor producing 268 hp and 343 Nm of torque. The Pro has a 49kWh battery, while all other models have a larger 62kWh unit with a single motor on the rear axle. The Brabus versions are equipped with two engines, which together produce as much as 422 Ag of power. With this power, the Brabus reaches 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, compared to just 5.8 seconds for the base model. That's how times and technology have changed - could you have imagined that a Smart brand car would be able to match the dynamics of Porsche cars? Thanks to improved aerodynamics, the version with the largest battery has a range of 455 km - 15 km more than the analogue Smart #1. If you go for the more powerful Brabus model, it will still have a range of around 435 km. The 150 kW battery charging speed allows it to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes. On the road, the Smart #3 behaves a little sportier than the smaller Smart #1, its suspension is a little stiffer, but it also handles a little better. After turning off the traction control, it is possible to slide a little in the turns if you are not afraid of the 1810 kg weight.
