It's been 16 years since the first generation of the highly successful Maserati GranTurismo, and we're only now getting its successor. Although stylistically and slightly changed, technically it is a very different car of the new generation of electric cars, which is also produced with an electric engine. Buyers currently have two versions to choose from. Named after Maserati's hometown, the Modena version boasts 483 hp, 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h. But much more interesting is the more powerful version of the 542 hp Trofeo, which shortens the sprint to 100 km/h to a supercar-acceptable 3.5 seconds and reaches a speed of almost 320 km/h. The new coupe is equipped with the 3-liter Maserati "Nettuno" engine, which debuted a couple of years ago in the supercar-titled MC20 model. This engine features a technology previously only seen in Formula 1 cars - these V6 engines have a double ignition chamber in each cylinder with an additional spark plug and injector. In other words, in a special chamber, part of the fuel-air mixture is ignited before ignition in the cylinder. Also, the engine of the new Maserati GranTurismo Nettuno will be able to disconnect half of the cylinders and thus significantly save fuel. What's more, an electric version of the Folgore will be introduced soon. This one will have even more impressive parameters - from the 92.5 kWh battery Folgore gets an impressive 750 hp. Three Folgore electric motors produce 250 hp each - one in the front and two in the back. This is enough to accelerate the 2,260 kg car from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, with a top speed of 320 km/h. Of course, in a straight line, the Maserati electric car is much faster than the 483 hp Modena and 550 hp Trofeo V6 versions, despite the fact that these models weigh 400 kg less. The manufacturer claims that the electric Folgore will be able to travel a distance of 450 km. The electric version has an artificial "engine" sound created by the car's many speakers. Some of them are mounted in the rear bumpers so that you can hear outside as well. At idle, the car emits a strange digital V8 engine sound, which by the way disappears as the car accelerates. Reviewers who have driven the car note that, subjectively, the Trofeo feels faster and is much more fun to drive than the Folgore electric car. The new GranTurismo, like its predecessor, is a comfortable four-seater GT class sports car with surprisingly good headroom. The driving position is ideal and the seats are more supportive than they appear visually. There are three screens - information, entertainment and climate control, the latter two are located in the center console. The electric version of the Folgore uses Econyl material in the interior design, made from recycled nets that have been pulled from the sea. This nylon fabric is also laser engraved, creating very interesting custom patterns in the cabin. Another interesting detail of the GranTurismo is the cofango hood, which together with the front fenders is made of a single sheet of steel, giving the front of the car a very clean look. This huge detail covers an area of 3 square meters, making it the largest body detail on the market.
