The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury SUV built on the P2 platform, which it shares with the first-generation Volvo S80 and other large Volvo cars. The XC90 is the most popular Volvo car in the world and is designed to compete with the BMW X5 and Mercedes ML-Class. In 2003, the model had two engines - a 2.5T and a T6. The 2.5T is a 5-cylinder, 20-valve turbo engine with 205 hp (153 kW) and 320 Nm of torque. The T6 is a 2.9 L 24-valve 6-cylinder engine with two turbines and 268 hp (200 kW) and 380 Nm of torque. Later, a new Ford / Yamaha co-developed V8 engine with 4.4 L 311 hp (232 kW) and 441 Nm of torque was introduced. Versions with both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive were produced. The XC90 is extremely popular in North America (here it is the most popular European SUV), so it is not for nothing that it won the 2003 SUV title in the United States. As usual, Volvo is known for its excellent safety features, it is also known as the SUV that has passed the rollover test the best, while many other luxury models do not care about this area. While the car isn’t as stylish as the BMW X5 or as impressive as the Range Rover, it is unbeatable in terms of practicality, comfort, spaciousness and safety. After all, this is what must be a real SUV.
This vehicle is comfortable enough, quite dynamic bearing in mind its weight, but what’s mostly worth paying attention to is it doesn’t break down as frequently as my previous cars like WV Passat, Golf, Audi A6 and especially MB E200, easily overcomes mos
Major disadvantages are: consumes too much fuel, not enough compartments, quite expensive tires, since you own Volvo expect to pay extra more in auto repair shops, sensitive gas regulation, front leather seats and hand brake wear out very quickly

Car description
I bought it half a year ago and to my mind it is quite stable, ‘patient’, having a good look, powerful and comfortable enough. If you decide to buy a gasoline-powered car (without gas), have in mind that fuel consumption will be high. I guess the maintenance of these vehicles requires a considerable amount of money. It’s not that financially easy to change cars lets say from Passat or Augi A6 into Volvo, since the difference in overall expenses is very noticeable. But then again it depends on how much you’re able to spend on your new toy.
Performance
I have 2.5-litre engine, and yet it is still quite slow (at least for me). On the other hand, I constantly remind myself that it’s not a roadster :) My nerves are calm when I’m driving my Volvo even if someone shows intention to run a red light with me. But that doesn’t interest me. This engine lacks a bit of power, but at least it doesn’t cause any major problems and gives a satisfying ride on a highway. When it comes to drive up a steep hill (30-degree incline angle), the engine of my vehicle suffocates – this I have tested only in short distances.
Reliability, running costs
Since the day I bought this car, only the rear axle had to be replaced. Obviously, this is the weak spot, i.e. bevel gear coupling. The problem is that it works fine very temporarily, so it’s better to repair the whole bevel gear coupling, or keep driving it, but not a four-wheeled type of vehicle. One more disadvantage was spotted, i.e. leather seats, which comparing to a low mileage, were worn out too quickly. So you may get an impression that this car has made a lot more kilometers than it is indicated on its odometer.
Recommendations to buyers
Firstly, check if everything is fine with the rear axle. Secondly, check if the automatic transmission works properly cause for some it causes additional problems (thanks God I had no such headache :). Thirdly, check your hand brake because due to factory rejects it doesn’t respond effectively enough. Computer diagnostics test being run on your car would be highly recommended and beneficial too. Since the quality of leather seats I see as a problematic issue, I’d say it’s worth trying to do a thorough search. You might be lucky. One more thing, start looking for a car having an average price in the market. Believe me, when I was looking for the cheapest possible car, I was surprised how easily some Volvo buyers were manipulated and deceived into buying a useless car. Even if I paid more than I was planning to, most of all I paid attention to the condition of a vehicle. Folks, be careful and attentive if you look for the cheapest car in the market.
