The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution also known simply as the Lancer Evo or Evo is a homologated WRC car produced with a two-liter turbo engine and an all-four-wheel drive system. Models for the Japanese market were limited by a general agreement not to produce cars with more than 280 hp, but it was unofficially claimed that cars often exceeded this limit - the Evolution IX claims to have as many as 321 hp. The first-generation Evolution was introduced in 1992 to fight in the WRC (World Rally Championship) and had a 2.0-liter turbo DOHC engine with a 4WD drive taken from a Galant VR-4 and fitted to a Lancer chassis. The Mitsubishi 4G63 engine developed 250 hp / 182 kW at 6,000 rpm and 309 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm.
