Introduced in 2003, the Mazda3 replaced the long-built Mazda 323. The car is built on Ford’s global C1 platform, which it shares with the Ford Focus, Volvo S40 and is produced in four-door sedan or five-door hatchback bodies. The new model was well received by both the press and buyers. The front suspension uses a MacPherson type and the rear suspension is multi-lever. The most powerful version in Europe is called the Mazda3 MPS (Mazda Performance Series) and has a 2.3 L DISI Turbo 4-cylinder engine with a 6-speed manual transmission. The maximum power of this engine is 191 kW (260 hp) at 5500 rpm, and the maximum torque of 380 Nm is reached at an extremely low 3000 rpm. This means that the engine responds instantly to the accelerator pedal. Mazda3 MPS up to 100 km / h. accelerates in an incredibly short time - 6.1 seconds, and the electric speed limit is 250 km / h. The Mazda3 MPS is one of the most powerful front-wheel drive cars in the world. There are many differences between the Mazda3 MPS and the regular model. Compared to the standard Mazda3, the MPS version is equipped with stiffer springs and a larger stabilizer, as well as better-performing shock absorbers.
In terms of speed, there’s no point to compare it with its rival - Golf GTi. Such words as “comfort” or “economy” simply don’t exist in this car’s description. Reinforcements of the body shell improve overall chassis rigidity. Fuel consumption is stunning, once you’re in the town or speeding at about 90 mph forget about low expenses.
Performance
Mazda3, MPS – this vehicle is front-wheel drive and powered by a really powerful 2.3 L Turbo engine. I think as for a front-wheel drive it has even more power than needed (a 4x4 version could have been produced like Mazda6 MPS). The problems I find with this vehicle are related to turbines that sometimes stop working properly, or the power steering that goes out, oil leak is one more issue which if not prevented will lead to constant reappearing.
Reliability, running costs
Running costs are rather expensive as for a sports car. If you’re a high speed driving lover, oil change is recommended to be done every 4000-6.000 miles. There’s no doubt that it’s a sports car, so be ready to pay extra for changing brake discs and brake pads. Depreciation is high enough during its first year of maintenance, but later a drop in price will mainly depend on the mileage, time driven or your driving style.
Recommendations to buyers
It’s well worth to check whether there is any rust. Even if it’s only 2-year old yet a fair amount of rust spots can be already detected on the bottom of a vehicle. Also, pay attention to vehicle service history. Finally, stay away from Mazda 3 that is run on gas.
