The Volvo S80 is the flagship of the Volvo range, launched in 1998 and replaced the rear-wheel-drive angled Volvo 960 / S90 sedan. Unlike almost all other Volvo models, the first-generation S80 did not have a car with a station wagon version. It’s one of the first Volvos to abandon the conservative angled design, instead the S80 design has softer, curved lines with narrowing at the rear and the characteristic stepped taillights later introduced for the S60 and S40 sedans. The S80 has had the title of one of the safest cars in the world for 5 years. The car features a 6-cylinder linear motor mounted transversely. An extremely compact manual gearbox is used for such an engine. The S80 is to be commended for its spacious interior, excellent build quality and abundant equipment. Disadvantages - somewhat poor rear visibility and high repair costs.
