In 2000, the seventh generation Lancer was introduced in Japan. The Lancer was produced in sedans and station wagons a little later. Eventually, the Colt model was separated from the Lancer line and became an individual car. In some European countries, the Lancer was not sold and gave way to a similarly sized Carisma model (in those markets, the Evo VII model was sold under the Carisma name). However, over time, it was from 2004 that Lancer began to take the place of Carisma in many markets, and later Carisma ceased production altogether. The most popular in Europe were the Lancer with 1.3 L SOHC 4G13, 1.6 L SOHC 4G18 and 2.0 L DOHC 4G63 engines (all 4 cylinders).
