It’s been a while since the first generation of the Lexus NX’s impressive design was unveiled and we now have a representative of the second-generation most popular segment from Lexus. We can see that the design language of the car has not changed - the car has retained its sharp, dynamic shapes only slightly softer than its predecessor. The accent remains in front of the large radiator grille, which visually "weighs" the already small NX body. It will be recalled that the Lexus NX is positioned below the larger RX in the Lexus range and competes with high-end SUVs such as the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60 and Range Rover Evoque. Compared to the first-generation NX, the car's length has been increased by 20 mm, wheelbase by 30 mm, width by another 20 mm and height by 5 mm. These dimensions provide better space planning in the cabin, including more space for those sitting in the back seat. The eye-catching exterior of the NX is a hybrid with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that the Lexus IS 300h sedan has. All NX variants are only equipped with a CVT automatic transmission, which is a drawback for this class of car. Also, unlike its competitors, the NX is only available with a petrol / electric hybrid drive - there is no diesel option. Under the hood of the new model is a four-cylinder, 2.5-liter hybrid engine and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 18 kWh. Thanks to the optional electric motor at the rear, all-wheel drive is running continuously. The new mains-powered NX hybrid powertrain has a total output of 306 hp and must accelerate to 100 km / h in just over 6 seconds. The battery-powered size and capacity of the hybrid model's battery allow it to travel up to 65 km on electricity alone, which is quite a lot, but you won't be surprised by that anymore. On longer journeys, the car automatically switches to self-charging hybrid mode. Although it is very convenient to drive on the highway, the suspension feels a bit stiff in the city. At the same time, the Lexus NX doesn’t offer the same traction as the sportier competitors of the BMW X3 and Range Rover Evoque.
