Will the new QX50, a small, economical and likable crossover, finally break the ice in Europe? The manufacturer claims that the QX50 has a new variable compression range power plant that features gasoline-powered power and a diesel engine economy. Could this be true? While other manufacturers such as Mazda have also provided cars with variable compression ratios, Infiniti has overtaken them. Of course, “on paper,” the QX50 looks impressive: the 2.0-liter gasoline engine with turbine generates 268 hp. Enough to reach 0 - 100 km / h in 6.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 230 km / h. The QX50 is available with both two- and four-wheel drive systems, but all feature CVT automatic transmissions with the ability to shift gears by hand, mimicking a standard eight-speed automatic transmission. It will be the only QX50 engine as there will be no other diesel or hybrid options. Indeed, the new powertrain is very impressive - the engine runs extremely smoothly, has good torque at low revs, but can also accelerate perfectly if you need to bend a slower car. Under normal traffic conditions, the engine works extremely harmoniously with the CVT gearbox, and wind and tire noise is well insulated from the cabin. The small crossover looks quite refined and justifies the prestigious Infiniti name. But nothing is perfect - no matter how well-matched the engine is to the gearbox, the CVT's drone buzzs more than you expect to gain acceleration at high revs. Of course, it really isn’t as bad as a few years ago CVT gearboxes. Still, it would be hard to imagine a BMW or Mercedes chief engineer confirming such a gearbox performance. In addition, although the car's body is relatively stable in corners, the steer-by-wire steering, combined with the new intelligent Propilot Assist system for semi-autonomous driving, provides an unpleasant feeling of detachment from the road. True, the interior of the car koger is the best we have ever seen in an Infiniti car. Whatever interiors this company knows how to produce. The style, finish and quality of the front panel is really good. The two touch screens - the lower for car controls and the upper for navigation, are quite intuitive and easy to operate. You will also find plenty of space in the cabin - not only in the front, but also in the back. Infiniti says there is more legroom than in the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Volvo XC60 or Mercedes GLC.
