This is the Corvette, which has undergone the biggest changes since its inception in 1953. For the first time, the Corvette transmission was positioned at the rear of the car. In this way, the rear wheels gained more weight as the aim was to increase traction. A new LS-1 engine, made of aluminum and producing 345 horsepower, was introduced, accelerating from 0 to 60 km / h in 4.8 seconds. Such data took the car to the highest class of sports cars. Despite the “exotic” power figures, the Corvette is well-suited and still suitable for everyday use and long-distance travel. Drivers of the C5 appreciate excellent cornering maneuverability, good value for money and a great design that exudes a true "American spirit". Inside, the car offers comfortable seats and a large trunk. The main disadvantage is that the car attracts too much attention - if you are modest, this car is not for you.
In its article on automotive engineering, the 1999 Corvette Convertible, along with the Mercedes-Benz S500, selected the best-designed cars of the 20th century by the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Car and Driver magazine selected the Corvette as many as 15 times among the top ten cars of the year: C4 from 1985 to 1989, C5 from 1998, 1999 and from 2002 to 2004, and C6 from 2005 to 2009.

Motor Trend magazine named this car the best car of the year in 1998.

For the first time, the Corvette transmission was positioned at the rear of the car. In this way, the rear wheels gained more weight as the aim was to increase traction. In addition, there was an ideal distribution of weight on both axles: 50% to 50%.

This generation Corvette was used as a safety car in the Indianapolis 500 race.

This Corvette can be compared to its competitors in terms of its technical data: BMW Z8, Ferrari 360, or Porsche 911 Turbo (Type 996) and is considered to be the most affordable serious sports car on the market.

The Chevrolet Corvette C5-R version has been used as a race car in the American Le Mans series, as well as in the 24-hour Le Mans race where it has won many victories in fights such as the Prodrive Ferrari 550 or the Prodrive Aston Martin.
