The Audi A3 is a small luxury family car produced with 3- and 5-door hatchback bodies. The car is built on Volkswagen Group A platform, which it shares with other company models such as Audi TT, Volkswagen Golf, Caddy, Touran, as well as Skoda Octavia and Seat Leon. With this generation of the A3, Audi has returned to the lower-end segment, abandoned since the discontinued Audi 50. The A3 is sportier than the Golf and is produced with both front and all-wheel drive. All engines had a four-cylinder configuration and were transverse mounted. The Audi A3 was the second model after the Audi A4 to have a five-valve cylinder system. The A3’s most powerful petrol engine was a 1.8-liter turbo with 180 hp (132 kW) and a diesel 1.9 L I4 TDI with a variable-geometry turbine (unfortunately the 1.9 TDI with 150 hp was not offered as that for the VW Golf and Seat Leon FR models) .
