1978 In September, Audi introduced the new B2 Series 80 model. The body of the car was created by Giorgetto Giugiaro, whose designs adorned many chic and well-known cars - 60s De Tomaso Mangusta, Iso Grifo, Maserati Ghibli, angled 70s BMW M1, Lotus Esprit S1, Maserati Bora models and a well-known car. "Traveling" on time - DeLorean DMC-12. The Audi 80 was produced with a sedan and a two-door coupe body. The bodywork of the station wagon was not produced, as this niche was filled by a closely related Volkswagen Passat model. Designed as a more luxurious car, the Audi 80 was Audi's first bold attempt to enter the mid-size premium segment alongside the BMW 3 Series and the soon-to-be-introduced Mercedes-Benz 190. A Quattro version with all-wheel drive was also produced. However, this version of the Audi 80 weighed more than the larger front-wheel-drive Audi 100 with the same 2144 cc 136 hp (100 kW) engine. The heavy car was not fast, had inferior equipment and was relatively expensive, so it was not very popular. The true B2 platform turned out to be quite versatile - many components were also shared in the Audi Coupe, Audi Quattro and Audi Sport Quattro models. The latter, as a message, have achieved unprecedented fame in rally arenas.
