Even if you haven't heard the name Polestar, it's not a brand new manufacturer - until 2015, the company was a separate Volvo car development company that produced Volvo sports models in various races. In the short period after 2015, several sporty production models of the Volvo S60 Polestar with 350 hp and an exclusive cyan body were released. The cyan color, which has no Lithuanian equivalent, is of course close to the colors of the Swedish flag, and the name Polestar itself tells us that the company is associated with the north and the stars. Of course, this is a Swedish company that is now owned by the Volvo / Geely Corporation and has a stellar ambition to become a manufacturer of exceptional luxury cars. Luxury has always been associated with high technology, and nowadays high technology in the automotive industry is primarily associated with electric cars, so it’s no surprise that this company with sports genes will produce electric cars. The first Polestar model, aptly named the Polestar 1, is not a fully electric car - it is a plug-in hybrid. Two rear electric motors are mounted on the rear axle of the car, and the front wheels are driven by a 2-liter internal combustion engine. All these engines and batteries are quite heavy, so the weight gain is compensated by the manufacturer with carbon fiber body parts, which will save up to 230 kg and lower the car's center of gravity down a bit. Unlike other mains-chargeable hybrids, which travel a very short distance in electric mode alone, the Polestar 1 can cover up to 150 km on a single charge, which is equivalent to the distance traveled by older generations of electric vehicles. This distance will suffice for most daily trips in the city. If that’s not enough, it will be powered by a 2-liter gasoline four-cylinder 382 hp engine that, along with electric motors, transmits a total of 600 hp and an impressive 1000 Nm of torque to all four wheels. Impressive power, especially for the Volvo. And with the Volvo company, the Polestar 1 has a lot in common - the front and rear of the car echo the stylistic Volvo models of recent times, especially the Volvo S90. The interior of the Polestar 1 is also identical to the Volvo model. Of course, the Polestar model looks much more impressive - a wide, low coupe silhouette, hidden door handles, a panoramic roof that gives an extraordinary feeling to the passengers. But it all comes at a price and it is as high as $ 155,000. In addition, Polestar will only provide these cars on a rental basis, which will prevent them from becoming the property of the buyers. On the road, the car is really fast - accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.2 seconds, and the four-cylinder engine sounds really great. But don't be fooled by the Polestar name given to this car - it's not a sports car. It's a powerful yet 2.3-tonne GT-class car that will have to compete with renowned competitors such as the S-Class Mercedes-Benz coupe body, the hybrid BMW i8 or the ultra-luxurious BMW 8 Series and even the Bentley Continental, which would seem like unbeatable competitors to the Volvo-based model, which is true, but the Polestar 1 has a fairly solid hybrid powertrain, an extremely rare car with just 1,500 units. after all, the Polestar 1 is something different and unique, and that's important.
